Courses

Successful completion of the Institute's two-pronged academic program will earn you six academic credits. You'll study:

MGMT701
Leadership and Organizational Dynamics
3/Axelrod and Graff

The course is an introduction to the theory and practice of leadership at all levels in business and other organizations. It focuses on a developmental model that links self-knowledge with diversity factors to evolve a better understanding of human behavior within the organizational context, and provides an opportunity to develop the necessary interpersonal skills. Topics include: visioning and goal-setting within a framework of personal values, motivation, communication, group dynamics and the art of building a productive organizational culture.

MGMT702
Developing Your Entrepreneurial Potential
3/Graff and McGarry

This course on business development is designed for the enterprising young woman interested in learning the fundamentals of business by exploring what it takes to start and run her own business. Each woman develops a business plan while learning about marketing, finance, legal issues, and accounting along the way. Students learn how to research ideas using library and internet tools as well as interviews with successful business people. While the course focuses on starting a business, several sessions are spent looking at systems, from information to human resources, needed to keep the business running smoothly. Field trips, executives-in-residence, and guest lecturers complement the course.
