Students will choose between three core courses in Arabic, international issues, and contemporary North African cultures to earn six-to- seven GW credits for Arabic, International Affairs, and Humanities. Our host institutions also offer a variety of other classes that may be taken for transfer credit.
The program is located at Al-Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), Morocco, a community in the Middle Atlas Mountains, an area known for its dense forests, watersprings, and lakes. The university was established in 1995 by the late King Hassan of Morocco and his brother King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. "Al-Akhawayn" is Arabic for two brothers.
Some scholarships are available for those GW students with a demonstrated interest in Arabic and Middle Eastern studies, as well as those students who seek an international experience but have not yet had the opportunity or resources to study abroad. Selection of scholarship recipients will be decided by a GW advisory committee. Costs for housing, travel, and meals will be announced in the spring semester.
All questions about the programs should be directed to the Office of Summer, Special, and International Programs.
