We represent a broad range of clients in a wide variety of insurance-related regulatory, corporate and legislative matters, including company formation, licensing and mergers and acquisitions. Being well integrated into our multiple practice groups enables the insurance practice to bring expertise in banking, securities and employment issues to provide comprehensive insurance counseling.

An established leader in the District of Columbia's captive insurance company initiative, we represented the first segregated cell, branch and association captives formed in the District, as well as the District's first captive manager. We have formed and represent a significant number of the District's captives and risk retention groups. We continue to develop new and innovative solutions for both captives and risk retention groups in dealing with owner/insured issues, control and organization strategies designed to properly protect the interests of all parties. We also have represented captives and risk retention groups redomesticating to the District of Columbia.

In coordination with the lawyers in our financial services practice group, we provide counsel on bank insurance sales alternatives, including formation and acquisition of agencies, direct marketing and third-party arrangements. We represented a major insurer in the creation of a virtual personal lines insurance company providing branded insurance products to banks and provided counsel to a large agents association in the formation of a bank to serve its membership.

We advise insurance companies on a wide variety of regulatory and compliance matters. Our insurance practice includes representing clients at administrative hearings and other dealings with insurance regulators, including rate and form filings. We have experience with the demutualization of mutual insurance companies. We also provide counsel on insurance marketing alternatives and market conduct issues and have developed numerous compliance programs.
