The Cultural Component includes an extensive selection of activities on week-day afternoons and evenings, and on sundays, including including the Visiting Lecturers' programs, live musical performances by East European Yiddish singers and musicians Liora Grodnikaite (Vilnius) and the Kovner Klezmorim (Kaunas).



Film

  • Workshop in Yiddish Theater, directed by Yiddish playwright Miriam Hoffman

  • Screening of an original film by Vilnius director Saulis Berzhinis, known for his work in documenting the remaining Jews of Lithuania.

  • Screening of an original film about Marc Chagall and his town of Vitebsk, by Minsk filmmaker Yuri Gurulov

Presentations

Lectures and presentations led by leaders of Jewish cultural life in Lithuania, including:

  • Dr. S. Alperavitch (Chairman, Jewish Community of Lithuania)

  • Ms. Fira Bramson (Chief Librarian for Judaica, National Library of Lithuania)

  • Mr. Ch. Lemchenas (Yiddish scholar and linguist, Vilnius)

  • Walking tour of the Old City of Vilnius, led by Roza Bielauskiene (Curator,

  • Walking tour of old Jewish Quarter, and visits to the Jewish Museum, led by Rachel Kostanian (Scientific Secretary, Jewish State Museum of Lithuania)

  • Walking tour of the pre-eminent sites of pre-war Yiddish culture, led by Bluma Katz (veteran of the Vilna Yiddish Teachers' Seminary)

  • Tours of sites of Jewish interest in Vilnius and vicinity

  • Tours of sites of Jewish historical interest throughout Lithuania
